So until this afternoon, I was seriously the last person alive to have not seen The Forty Year Old Virgin. There's a certain, I don't know, irony (is it irony? I don't know what that word means), to that - a movie about some dude who can't get his shit together enough to have sex, being viewed by a girl who couldn't get her shit together enough to watch a movie that everyone says is hilarious. And everyone was right - Hi.Larious. And thoroughly enjoyable. I don't know why I put off watching it (actually, I do - I won't watch a movie until I want to watch it, no matter how good I hear it is), but I was surprised almost at how much I liked it. Certainly a lot of cringe-worthy, turn-away-from-the-TV moments (I felt so bad for Andy/Steve Carell at so many points during the movie!), but the dialogue was so funny and everyone in it was great. I especially really loved everyone that worked at the electronics store, and I think I actually quite like Paul Rudd. I don't know when or how that happened (undoubtedly in part due to the Anchorman factor), but there it is. Anyways, so I'm sitting here in my living room by myself, absolutely cracking up, which is a little sad, but I really liked it. I know, welcome to the club - finally.

Feeling the need for a change, I've done a bit of a makeover here at the Jenifesto. Also, what better to do on a Saturday morning when you can't sleep in because you're running on "work time"?

All right, I'll owe up: I'm pretty boring. It's been a week, and while I'm feeling better (thanks, Deb, for the concern!), I really don't have too much to write about. A lot of the more juicy/interesting/entertaining things as of late have been more of a friends-only, two drink minimum type affair, so sorry - not blogable. I feel like Carrie in that episode of SATC when she has nothing to write about so she's doing columns on men being like socks or something. But let's see what I scrounge up for the benefit of keeping this thing afloat until I get back to school in September, shall we?
Ooh, I have one. I haven't done a book review in a while, and the other day I finished A Wrinkle in Time. Yes, another book I never read as a child. I'm beginning to see that with these classic books that I go back and read, it can either go two ways - that is, I love love it (see: Charlotte's Web, The Dark is Rising), or I'm like, WTF? (See: Narnia). So, I think this another instance of maybe I should have read it years ago. I mean, I don't even know what I didn't like about it. I think what made me not enjoy it was how dated it feels. And hey, I'm a historian, I love old things. This is the girl who prides herself on having chosen the cell phone ringer that sounds most like the musical embodiment of a 1960s dinner party. With that being said, it just felt so old, and like old in that way that's like when you watch something that was made in the '70s but supposed to be set in the 2000s looks old. And I felt the ending was rushed. So, ya, I didn't really enjoy that.
Oh, and speaking of books - Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I'm never reading it. There is some seriously bad juju surrounding that book for me. I've attempted to read it twice, and twice I've started only to be interrupted by something that throws me through a loop. So screw it.
And because I love food, I'm going to give a special shoutout to a burger I had on the weekend that had stilton, roasted garlic cloves, and walnuts on it. What a burger.
Is it just me, or is this the longest summer ever?

Ah, I have been a tired and sore unit as of late. But, never fear, the brain has been working overtime on random observations.
- Why is it that everywhere I look lately, there is an actor who looks alarmingly like Mark-Paul Gosselaar? There was some dude in a dog food commercial who I'm still not positive wasn't Preppy, and then some guy on CSI:M last night. I feel like freaking Haley Joel Osment over here: "I see Zach Morris"
- Back muscle relaxant - what up with that? I took some on Sunday, promptly passed out, and started having seriously f'd up dreams. I was still tired the next day. On the upside, however, my back feels fantastic. I heart pharmaceuticals.
- I bought a new cell phone, and I love it. LOVE it. It's the girliest thing I own (which is good, because I went into Rogers demanding the girliest phone in stock). So girly that it looks like I mugged Barbie for it.
- Corky St. Clair in Waiting for Guffman is seriously one of my favourite movie characters ever. Please, stop being so hilarious, Christopher Guest - you're killing me. I can't get enough of him yelling into the phone, "Well then I just hate you... and I hate your ASS FACE!"
- If you have access to it, and think it might be your thing, I whole-heartedly endorse "Penn and Teller: Bullshit!" So funny. Also, I have a serious crush on Penn Jillette.
- Today was blood test day at work. TB and your run of the mill blood-workery. Here's hoping for no consumption!
All right, out of ammo for now. My intense desire for cereal right now means I'm heading out to the air-conditioned goodness of the grocery store. Wherever you are, stay cool.
Edit: I think this program, being Blogger, hates me. Apologies for any wonky formatting you may have had to endure in the reading of this post.

With much glee, I registered for my final year of school this week. Natch, being the compulsive type, I registered the second the clock hit 12 atlantic/11 eastern. I think it's actually probably one part compulsion, one part Queen's training, where you had to sign on the second registration opened or face being stuck in some crappy history course. But I digress - registration went smoothly, and following Keystroke's lead, my choices for the next year are...
Fall Semester
- Digital Libraries (otherwise affectionately known as "Dige" - like, rhymes with, um, ridge?)
- Systems (whatever that is)
- Archives
- Collections Management
- Indexing and Abstracting
- Cataloguing, Part Deux
- YA Services (wha-hoo!)
- Legal Literature and Librarianship (the wild card)
So this weekend, as of right now, Renata and I are having a dinner party. The guests are a particularly hard bunch to pin down, so it wouldn't be at all unlikely for them to have to cancel at the last minute, but as of writing, everything looks like a go. This would be the same party I needed an outfit for, and you can all rest easy now, because I have an outfit ready to go. So, good times expected for this weekend. If I manage to survive the madness, I'll turn in a report laterish.

A Tale of Two Cities
Edit: This post is dedicated to JPMC, a die-hard fan of CSI the original. May you one day see the light.
I'll leave the thought provoking and meaningful posts for '"Keystrokes of Genius," and instead take on a subject near and dear to my summer television watching heart - CSI. All right, hello, my name is Jen, and I watch too much CSI. ("Hi, Jen.") So, like everyone else, I began by watching the original CSI (Las Vegas). I then, through subtle persuasion by my dad, and then eventual all-out acceptance on my own, was won over by Miami. (Sidenote: for those that don't know, my dad is freaking hilarious when it comes to Miami - he'll actually call me into the living room when the show is starting so I too can witness the Horatio Caine one liner, sunglasses, Roger Daltrey scream moment. He even screams along with the TV. He loves it, and I love him for it.) Anyways, as it stands, I love CSI: Miami, and find it infinitely preferable to Las Vegas. Renata agrees 110% with me on this, and I assure you, much time in this house is dedicated to discussing exactly how damn attractive Horatio Caine is. But even leaving Horatio aside, everything about Miami is way hotter than LV. Last night, we watched two completely random episodes - one of each city. The manner in which they highlight the incredibe hotness, and therefore awesomeness, of Miami over LV is brilliant. Check it: On Miami, this really, really hot model is killed by electrocution, in her hot tub, by a tanning light, during a party filled with incredibly hot people. Model, hot tub, tanning light, party of hot people. On LV, a dumb co-ed, sleeping with her married prof, is crushed behind a dumpster, trying to get a garbage can, so she can get her security deposit back. Dumpster. Garbage can. Security deposit. Co-ed. Ugh. I don't even need to get into (but I will), how much better Calleigh is to Catherine (with her bad botox, her faux stripper cred, her shady Sam Braun, and let's not forget the Eddie years), or how Caine is three hundred times hotter than Grissom. Oooh, hot scene with Grisson shows him in a cotton bath robe with Sarah drying her hair. Hot. Let's try Horatio Caine, marrying Marisol (way hot), with a super slick suit on. Now that's hot. And yes, even though I quite like Greg, Mr. Wolfe takes the cake, if for no other reason than he's actually called Mr. Wolfe by Horatio all the time. The CSI are hot, the victims are hot, the suspects - also hot... it never ends. The only thing that could make the show even better, would be if Brass, the single most awesome aspect of the LV experience, decides to hang it up and head over to Miami.
End rant.

Love, love, love a long weekend. Having had a rather interesting and at times tiring last two weeks, this Canada Day breather has been very much welcomed. Opting not to go to St. C, and to just chill out in Kingston has proved worthwhile - I've had a lot of time to just relax, watch movies, sit out on the deck, read, stroll around downtown, and the like. Oooh, and mid-afternoon naps - I had the best nap today. I've also celebrated Canada's birthday with a bit of shopping - great clothes procured, and finally, a pair of sun glasses. All in all, a fantastic weekend and still one more day of slothy goodness to come tomorrow!
Other than that, there's not too much new. I'm either the most boring person alive, or this is really as exciting as it gets for people in my position (that being: school til May, work for four months, a few exciting engagements here and there that break the tedium, return to school with no "For my summer vacation, I..." stories). Or, of course, I'm a combination of the two, which is entirely likely. I was speaking with a teacher friend of mine last night, and she just finished up for the year (though did point out she now has to prep all summer for the fall), and I am having those ol' "But I don't wanna be a student anymore!!!" feelings again. Ugh - summer jobs? I'm so over summer jobs. The end of my masters could not possibly come soon enough. Of course, I'm sure I'll look back at this all wistfully and pine for the years of summer jobs, but right now, so ready to move on.
So move on I shall... to the living room, where I hear the Simpsons.
